Alexis Laurent – Portrait of an Artist
Duration: 5’37″
Alexis Laurent is a contemporary art sculptor based in San Francisco. In 2009 after years of working in 2D in his paintings, he went 3D, opened a brand new gallery that he also uses as his studio. He asked me to follow him over a year, and produced a portrait of him. The video was shot with an hpx170, and used the different mode of the cameras, from slow-motion to timelapse. The video took 2.5 full month of work over a period of a year, including 3 weeks of editing.
Laura | Carmen Cooking Show
Duration: 9’42″
Miri from lauracarmen.com asked to produce a series of video for her blog. She is a really talented cook and wanted to start presenting some of that talent on video. This is the 1st video out of a whole set that we’ll be working on during 2010. Basically the videos are shot with 2 cameras. One still on a tripod, and another camera hand-held via a Steadicam stabilizer. The sound comes from a lav that she is wearing on her shirt, and another shotgun mic on the camera to help bring a more environmental sound. The filming happened over 2 days, and editing was 5 days of work from start to finish.
ARS Electronica Submission. Flaming Lotus Girl
Duration: 3’00″
ARS Electronica is the annual prestigious Austrian electronic art competition. The Flaming Lotus have embarked in many trips along with their art pieces in the past years. This time they’re introducing the Serpent Mother to the famed festival, since there’s so much electronics in the sculpture. Of course it’s made not to be obvious. That video presented here was used to submit the piece to the festival, but the voice-over has been removed.
Dust & Illusions. Full Feature Documentary
Duration of trailer: 6′ (Film duration: 75′)
After 4 years of work, Dust & Illusions is completed. The film explores 30 years of history of Burning Man all the way back to the late 70s into the origins of the event, with never seen footage of the Suicide Club, the Cacophony Society, and the early burns on San Francisco Baker beach. Twenty interviewees expose their views about the history of the event, and its evolution into a large festival. The film is the first to present Burning Man with a critical eye (not a negative one) and analyze how successful the event really is in its intention of recreating community and bringing art back to “ordinary” people. Watch it and be the judge, as the film doesn’t try to draw conclusions one way or the other.
